Range Rover Warning Lights and What They Mean

Warning lights on the dashboard of a Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Vogue, Velar or Evoque usually show that the car has detected a problem in one of its systems. Below we have put together what common warnings are generally related to and what may cause them.

The name, symbol and meaning of a warning may vary by model and year. The exact cause of a warning can only be found by checking the car. When a warning comes on, you can check your owner’s manual or ask us.

Engine warning light

May show that the engine management system has logged a fault. It may be related to ignition, the fuel system, sensors, the turbo or the emission system.

If the engine warning light comes on, ask us; we read the fault codes and inspect the related systems.

Transmission fault warning

May show that the automatic transmission has detected a fault. Harsh or delayed gear changes, or the car limiting its power (limp mode), may accompany this warning. Low transmission fluid or a fluid leak may also be among the causes.

If the transmission warning comes on, ask us.

Suspension warning

May show a problem in the air suspension system. The car sagging on one side or the height adjustment not working may come with this warning. It may be caused by an air spring, the compressor or the valve block.

If the suspension warning comes on, ask us.

4x4 (all-wheel drive) warning

May show a problem in the four-wheel-drive system. The system differs by model and year; the warning may be related to the transfer case or, on some models, an all-wheel-drive coupling (e.g. Haldex).

If the 4x4 warning comes on, ask us.

Brake system and ABS warning

May indicate a condition related to the brake fluid, brake pads or the ABS system.

If the brake or ABS warning comes on, ask us.

Electronic parking brake warning

May show that the electronic parking brake is not working as expected.

If the parking brake warning comes on, ask us.

Airbag (SRS) warning

May indicate a problem with the airbag or seat belt system.

If the airbag warning comes on, ask us.

Stability control (DSC / ESP) warning

A light that flashes briefly may show that the system has stepped in during wheel slip. A light that stays on may indicate a problem in the system.

If the warning stays on, ask us.

Battery and charging warning

May show that the battery is not charging properly. It may be related to the battery, the alternator or the charging system.

If the battery warning comes on, ask us.

Oil pressure warning

May indicate a problem with engine oil pressure. It may be related to the oil level, the oil pump or a sensor.

If the oil pressure warning comes on, ask us.

Engine overheating warning

May show that the engine coolant temperature has risen. It may be related to low coolant, the water pump, the thermostat or the radiator.

If the overheating warning comes on, ask us.

DPF (diesel particulate filter) warning

On diesel cars, may indicate a condition related to the particulate filter or its regeneration system. It may appear more often with frequent short trips.

If the DPF warning comes on, ask us.

AdBlue warning

May show that the AdBlue level is low or that there is a problem in the AdBlue system.

If the AdBlue warning comes on, ask us.

“Service required” warning

Usually indicates that periodic maintenance is due; however, the meaning of the message may vary by model and year.

If the “Service required” warning comes on, ask us.

Fault codes

Behind dashboard warnings are fault codes logged by the car. At our workshop we read these codes with an OBD diagnostic device and then check the related parts and systems.

Ask us

If a warning has come on, you can take a photo of it and send it to us on WhatsApp. Our workshop in Dudullu OSB, Ümraniye, is open 24/7.
